In 1989, Nikon set up its Canadian ophthalmic division, Nikon Optical Canada, with its head office and laboratory in Montreal. In 1999, a second ophthalmic laboratory opened in Vancouver. A few years later in 2004, Nikon Optical Canada opened a coating facility in Calgary expanding further in Western Canada. In 2006, Nikon invested in the opening of a laboratory in Halifax, extending its products and services in Atlantic Canada. Moreover, in 2008, in order to address the rapid expansion of the Ontario market, Nikon Optical Canada opened its Technology Centre in Toronto, as one of the most advanced surfacing and coating facilities in the world.
